2011-2012 Competition Schedule
Throughout the year, HFSA participates in the following competitions which give our skaters an opportunity to showcase their talents in front of judges by competing with skaters from other clubs.

Steps for Entering Competitions
- Decide on competition attending and print form (see links above)
- Fill out form correctly (using your individual ISI number) and select events you are entering
- Give to skating director (hand deliver at arena or drop off at house)
- Note: Do not send in the registration form yourself - the Director must send all forms together!
Description of Events
Compulsory – three moves from each individual level skated without music
Footwork – a one minute routine consisting of dance steps, edges, and crossovers. No required elements.
Freestyle – all skating moves from level are skated in a program to music or skater or coaches choice for 1 to 3 minutes, according to level.
Interpretive – program skated to music of competition coice (listened to during warm-up of event) and skater makes up a routine for number. Judged on creativity and judges appeal.
Spotlight – (Character, draatic, family) a fun number skated to music for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes with no required maneuvers, judged on creativity and judges appeal.
Things to Do to Prepare for Competition
- Signup for private ice sessions with a competition coach to prepare a route for the event. Usually 1-2 sessions a week. Coach will review competition details relating to event: times of skate, expected departure and arrival, checking in your music, etc.
- Pick out music for routine. Coach can usually cut music for your skater.
- Coach will accompany you down to your competition and help skater get on and off ice.
Costs for Competition
- Entry fee costs (which are on each form)
- Private ice time and lessons preparing skater / lessons usually rante fro m$5 to $10 per lesson
- Fee for coach to accompany skater at competition
