Fundraising

Overview

HFSA has three different types of fundraisers during the year.  Each has a unique purpose and is designed to help manage skating costs and make the program available to as many skaters as possible.  The fundraiser chairmen are listed on our board members website page.

Red Phone Book Delivery

This is our only mandatory fundraiser.  It is usually scheduled for the first week in June.  Our club is responsible for delivering the red “Crow River Area” phonebooks throughout the city of Hutchinson.  The fundraiser chairman will work with each skater to assign them a delivery area within Hutchinson (typically 75-150 homes) and provide them with the corresponding number of phone books (usually distributed from the ice arena on a specific date).   After receiving the phone books, the skater and their family simply deliver a phone book to each home within their delivery route by laying it on the front step (plastic bags are provided to protect the phone book).  It’s fun to do and usually takes only an hour or two – depending how many friends and family join in.  Since this is a mandatory fundraiser, skating members who do not participate are assessed a $100 fee.  This is the largest fundraiser which directly goes into the HFSA budget to reduce overall skating program costs.

Cashwise Brat Stand

HFSA has always requested and been given one of the July weekends (Thur-Sat) to run the Cashwise Brat Stand in Hutchinson.  This is an optional participation fundraiser but is a great way to earn your volunteer hours.  Both parents and/or skater can work at the brat stand.  The fundraiser chairman will distribute emails to all club members advising on dates and working shifts available.  Once again, this fundraiser goes directly into the HFSA budget to reduce overall skating program costs.

Butterbraids

This fundraiser is offered each fall as an optional activity for skaters to earn funds that go directly into their personal skating account.  Consequently, the more time and effort a skater puts into Butterbraid sales, the lower their skating costs for the season.  The fundraiser chairman will notify all club members regarding Butterbraid flavors available, order dates, and delivery dates and will provide the fundraising forms.  Each skater can optionally participate by selling and subsequently delivering Butterbraids to friends, family, and neighbors.  Butterbraids are a tasty frozen pastry that you take out the night before, allow to rise, and bake in the morning for a wonderful breakfast treat – perfect for holiday weekends, mornings at the cabin, or just for fun anytime!  There are many flavors including cinnamon, carmel, raspberry, blueberry, etc.
